Website owners need to curb information requests
The information you give out on the internet is quite easily retrieved.
If you are in a court battle, even a divorce, this information could be used against you. It could defame you as a witness, even in a criminal matter, if you were a witness to a crime.
If you lie when they insist on your birthday, income, homeownership or race, this could be used to defame you in court and in other private civil matters.
We need to get reasonable legislation out there to minimize the required amount of fields on any type of registration website page, to one. That would be the person's email address.
All other fields should be considered optional. As an incentive, the website owner could offer special services for those that complete all of the information.
If a business or branch of the government needed more information, they should apply for a special license through an agency like the Secretary of State.
Please note that I am not Petitions.com therefore I cannot control the fact they require your name. Petitions would generally require the name of the signer. But there is no available license for me to purchase at this time.
